The Handcrafted Crumb started decades ago with an Easy Bake oven, a heritage of Dutch Treats, and a deep love for real food. Inspired by the recipes passed down from my Oma and Mom, baking has always been more than a skill--it's a way of gathering, sharing, and caring for others.
Our journey started in our own kitchen, 12 years ago when my daughter, undergoing intense medical treatment, couldn't tolerate processed foods. I learned to make her bread with flour, water, and salt. I packed homemade bread whenever we'd leave our home or go on vacation. Later, I started exploring Colorado-grown grains to make slow fermented sourdough loaves that feed both the body and soul. Over time, that same love extended to something much sweeter--Dutch stroopwafels, made hot and gooey at the market, just as we enjoyed while walking the streets in Amsterdam.
Today, you'll find us at Farmers Markets all over the Pikes Peak Region--making stroopwafels, selling bread, and always with a warm smile and a story to share. We're also passionate about teaching young people about baking, grains, and dreaming of a future where real bread is available to all.
Everything we make is handcrafted with intention, with real ingredients, and for our community.

I learned about Dutch sweets from my Oma and the beauty of homemade, nourishing food from my Chef Mom who made the dinner table our delicious gathering place. Caring for others by feeding them is a deep part of who I am. I believe good food has the power to connect great people, and I pour that belief into everything that I make.

From cheering me on during late night dough making to setting up all the heavy things at the markets, and reminding me why I took this leap of faith, Shawn is the reason this bakery runs smoothly. He believes in me fiercely and never stops telling me I'm exceptional--especially when it comes to baking (and stroopwafels).

They're the best helpers at markets and great at giving brutally honest feedback about our goods. Our kids are an essential part of our team and legacy. They remind us why we do this--to build something meaningful together.
We're a small crew, but we have big hearts. Every crumb is a reflection of our family, our story, and our love for our community.
